Communication

Communication

without communication, there is no relationship, without respect, there is no love.

Family member that demonstrate a good communication with their children.

I want to share with you the story of my friend Andrea who’s daughter Natalia who has 12 years old was invited to a friend’s house for dinner. At dinner time Natalie didn’t ate, she told her mom that she didn’t want to eat, and there are kids of different ages around her, and she also has little sisters. Everyone was watching and waiting for her mother’s reaction.

This story is about how important it is to know and communicate with the children but you need to be careful and know how to answer, as there are many small children that are watching the bad behavior of the big girl who will not eat.

I saw that her mother approached to her daughter and said: “Eating is important so that you can grow well, be healthy, and not get sick. Food is necessary to live and grow up healthy. In your plate are vegetables, rice, and meat which are all necessary for your health. You need to do good decisions in your live is you don’t want to get sick. It’s your health, you grow your brain, if you eat you could grow well and also your brain will learn better, and you will be a healthy girl.”

Some of the children begin to say that they eat vegetables, milk, etc, that they want to grow healthy to be good students, and not to have illness. If the mother of the 12 year old girl said: do not eat its ok, react in a bad way, or shout to her then it would have been worse for everyone, and a bad moment.

So for me it’s important to always try to communicate with others in a good way: not hurting people, respecting them, and letting them know that sometimes they are wrong but in a good manner. Communication is vital for everyone and it’s important to learn more about it.

Professional Hopes and Goals

Professional Hopes and Goals

We have become not a melting pot but a beautiful  mosaic. Different people, different beliefs, different yearnings, different hopes, different dreams. “Jimmy Carter”

One of my hopes is to foster an excellent relationship with  families and children diverse and always support them. In that way they would  accept ,know and respect and foster good relationships. To develop and grow in a better world without prejudices.

I want children in my class  feel good and secure, learning in an environment of love, acceptance, respect, and  also learning the different cultures beliefs, of others, this will which help  them to learn more about each other.

One goal for me is to accept  and understand the different cultures of every family, respect to them and also learn each day from them.

I want people to know that we are unique and that we should accept  to each other and try to foster good relationships.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”Martin Luther King,Jr.”

There is but one law for all, namely that law which governs all law, the law of our Creator, the law of humanity, justice, equity the law of nature and of nations. ” Edmund Burke”

I want to said to everyone a special thank you for sharing your knowledge, and your support during this class, I enjoyed each of your post and your experiences. I wish the best to every one!

Thanks maria

Welcoming Families From Around the World

TURKISH, FAMILY

·         Having a strong teacher parent relationship, providing them strategies to support, maintain, preserve home language learning. So is important to invite parents to share with class typical food, cultural items, holiday traditions, songs.

·         Keep the family informed about class topics and activities.

·         Learning a few words in the child’s home language also shows the children that you are making an effort to help them succeed in the classroom.

·         Provide a welcoming environment , having signs in Turkish language in our class, post a welcome sign on the door in Turkish .

·         Creating a good environment helping the children to develop confidence, self-esteem, and positive cultural identity, is our responsibility as educators to c a classroom community that is accepting of all of our students, no matter their communications abilities, their physical abilities, and their cultural backgrounds and beliefs.

Is important to have a good parent relationship, we could learn from each other, I would learn from the parents some Turkish words means for helping the children in understand in a better way another language. Also creating an environment of respect, love that allows children to really feel important, supported, is important to know the needs and characteristics of each individual child.

So the challenge for a teacher is to provide high-quality care education for the children who are likely to be linguistically and cultural diverse.

The Personal Side of Bias, Prejudice, and Oppression

The Personal Side of Bias, Prejudice, and Oppression

PEOPLE                              DISCRIMINATION
                                     SOCIAL                              BIAS                                  UNEQUAL
GROUP

PREJUDICE

     INDIVIDUAL                                                                                      RACE

I think a few months ago I did a mock trial on a friend to which he had as a selfish, materialistic, and I think she is rude and never thought of others just live and think for her. But one day I decided to open up and know her well, talk deep with her, and now I really see who she was, I felt so bad for all these years thinking bad about her, I decide that moment to be honest with her and I said her that I thought she was different, but I was thinking in a bad way of her all of this time. “everyone is a prisoner of his own experiences, No one can eliminate prejudices-just recognize them. ”Edward Roscoe Murrow,1995.

How important is to really know the others, do not judge people without knowing them, we need to be more open and not live and grow with these prejudices, that hurt us. Prejudice, oppression “Can affect our individual sense of self and undermine our healthiest and fullest development as human beings.”( Derman- Sparks. Anti-Bias Education.2010.pag.25)

This incident is for me a huge opportunity, because from now I’ll do false testimony of the people, and I will try to see things in a more open way, we need to accept our difference, and always start t respecting all the people as they are.

“the less secure a man is, the more likely he is to have extreme prejudice. ”Clint Eastwood.

MICROAGGRESSION

CLASS                          SEXUALITY                       LANGUAGE

BODY                       MICROAGGRESSIONS

 RELIGION

IMMIGRATION STATUS                               RACE

In the school I have seen children of color, or another culture and how the other children makes groups and ignore them, they don't like to sit or talk with them sometimes I heard agreesive language like they stink. Dr. Sue states,"Insulting message often causes several phycological strees and harm."(Laurate,2011) For me is painful to see such young children hurt or feel bad for the others. They discriminate people of different culture or if they are black. Many times I have to guide these children, let them know that we are humans, differents but we have feelings, we need to respect each other, is important to accept and to learn from our difference.
Be aware  interacting with people ,share and intimate with them, foster in school and cooperative environment. As a teacher for me is important to have more knowledge in microaggression , to help the good development of the children and their families.

PERSPECTIVES ON DIVERSITY AND CULTURE

CULTURE

What is culture and diversity for Andrea, Jose, and Emilia?
They answer that culture is a range of knowledge, experience, and behavior. Is the basis and the foundation of who we are, what we identified each other.

And diversity is a variety and difference that the things have, the different cultures of people, this allows us to see the knowledge and customs of the people. The diversity is important because it teach us to tolerate and to respect and understand others.

Beliefs                    Language
Customs

CULTURE
Understanding                                                                   Religion
                                                               Values

For me culture is complex, what we live, the language we speak, religion, the food, the way we talk, our behavior, beliefs, our cultural background, our ethnicity, our relationships with others, Values, how we show our emotions, education, how we socializing.

I think my knowledge about culture increase in me to see more elements that are include in culture is not only the costumes, faces, food and holidays is more than that is the lifestyles, behavior, education, relationships, language that we reflect in our life, the way we life the way we learn.

People has difference, they are different, so we learn from each others, and we need to understand and respect people with their differences, be more open, and try to fit at home and outside in our work, school, social life.

MY FAMILY CULTURE

First,I would Choose a picture that has photos of my Country, to show everyone how beautiful it is, and if I move to other Country that picture will make me remember the culture, and the different places that I visited ,and  remember that it was the city where I was born.

Second and the most important is an album of  my family it has all the moments that I shared with them. it has a lot of pictures, memories that are in my heart.  If I need to move to another Country this album is a very significant element for me to remember my family culture, experiences, love.  Seeing this album make me feel happy, because it has pictures when I was little, and now I want to show it to my daugthers.

Third, I love and enjoy cooking and I think in my Country the recipes are delicious and healthy so I decided to take the best cookbook  my grandmother gave it to my mom, and now it is mine , I think if I move to other Country I will have this recipe book to cook and share the different varieties of food of my country.

We life in a diverse world ,our families have different cultures, and lifestyles, languages, religions, clothing food, rituals, holidays. But we need to understand learn from others and respect their backgrounds. we need to be sensitive and open.
