My Connections to Play.

The differents games that I used to play are : play with water, mud, clay, kitchen, family, professor, but I see that in some families the chidren still having this type of  play.So we need to continue PLAYING  and explore the world and  be creative ,to share with others and to have a good well-being.

"It is playing, and only in playing, that the individual child or adult is able to be creative and to use the whole personality, and it is only in being creative that the individual discovers the self."D.w.Winnicott.

"You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation"Plato

Playing with playdough, not only it is a lovely sensory experience, but playdough gives children the opportunity to create things which is fabulous to strengthen their finger muscles.

Playing outside in the dirt or the mud encompasses all the senses while the child is learning and is a fulfilling hands on activity that not only has been said to be good for you but it connecting the child's spirit, soul, imagination and physical self to the outdoors. When I  was little love to play with water and in the mud.

My best play was in the kitchen
I play in the kitchen of my mother and I pretended  to be the mother it was so funny.

Play is to grow healthy and we should all play with our children, parents, and grandparents. In my case my parents always play with me and now I do the same with my kids, and my students.

RELATIONSHIP REFLECTION

Healthy Relationships relate strongly to people's health and well being.

This is my Family, all of them are important to me ,my parents that allways give me love, and support .they always taught me rules and a good eductation. My siblings we are always sharing great times and we help and communicate with each other,my nephwes which give me joy and always helping them in their growth, they trust me.and finally my cousins they will always be there for me like my siblings.

The relationship that I have with my parents is wonderfull, they are my best friends,I can trust them, they always help me and give me good advice, support me,take care of my children and the most important thing is that they give me lots of love.
The realtionship that I have with my nice, and nepwes are important for me because I took care of them when they were little and now if any of them have problems they come to me and I help them ,we always talk, and share good moments.

In my family we share great moments, and we help each other,we are happy, and we play and help our children in their development ,we have rules in our home and we enjoy all the moments together.I love my family my husband and my daughters are the best gift God gave me!
Family,together we have it all!

Family isn't always blood. It's the people in your life who want you in theirs;the ones who accept you for who you are.The ones who would do anything to see you smile and who LOVE YOU no matter what.

TO HAVE A NURTURE FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS WE NEED TO HAVE:

  • Tolerance,We need to Understand that those we love might have different pictures in mind.
  • We need to have Time Together.
  • We need to teach less, and listen more, always honor ach other;s viewpoints and dreams,
  • Show how much you love your family.
  • Always be honest.
  • People need to feel they are valued.

Relationships can bring us great joy, they help build your emotions and your social relationships with people.
Trust is very important in having a healthy relationship that grow simultaneusly too.

Our ability to teach children expands past the children and includes family, colleagues, and our community.By involving all of these components we create a rich environment for our children and serve as models for the children to create positive realtionships with other people.

Family-Teacher relationships are essential for learning about the children from an additional and valuable source, promoting children's emotional health, and helping children deal with difficult problems that may have lifelong consequences.

   Is essential in developing
  positive relationships with
  all people.

CHILD DEVELOPMENT

I want to said thank you to every one of the students that shared with me this course, the support that I received for each of you help me in having more knowledge, good luck for everyone, and hope to continue working with all of us! thank you Maria.

Children: "There are no seven wonders of the world in the eyes of a child. There are seven million".Walt Streightiff.

For me as a teacher the children are part of my life,I always give the best of me to them, that dreary would be the world without children.
I love them, and  shared experiences and best moments of life with them.

"This is the treasure we need today-helping the child become independent of us and make his way by himself, receiving in return his gifts of hope and light" Maria Montessori

If teaching is to be effective with young children, it must assist them to advance on the way to independence. It must initiate them into those kinds of activities which they can perform themselves and which keep them from being a burden to others because of their inabilities. We must help them to learn how to walk without assistance, to run, to go up and down the stairs, to pick up fallen objects, to dress and undress, to wash themselves, to express their needs in a way that is clearly understood, and to attempt to satisfy their desires through their own efforts. All this is part of an education for independence." (The Discovery of the Child, Maria Montessori)

Being able to see that child is going ahead and doing things increasingly alone,as an educator makes me feel that I'm doing a good job!,because tomorrow will be children with the ability to solve there own problems.

Testing for Intelligence

  • Considering a commitment to viewing young children holistically (i.e., a commitment to "the whole child"), what, if anything, do you believe should be measured or assessed? Explain your reasoning.
I think is important to  be assessed the languague and the motor skills:
The languague is important skill that allows a person to communicate. Can give a child a window to the world, helping to ensure that each child can seize his or her potencial for the future success.

Children must develop languague skills to relate with their parents, family and peers,as well as to grow into a person who can socially interact with others through life.

A good motor development predicts an adequate learning process in children literacy.Children can navigate between other areas, notions of space, and laterality,as above-down,right-left,front-back.
The children not only develops motor skills, also allows interactions to integrate the level of thinking, emotions and socialization.

  •  In what ways are school-age children assessed in other parts of the world? (Choose a country or region of the world for which you have a personal affinity.)
In Ecuador, assesses some areas :cognitive, social, motor, language,in a process of qualitative assessment of their potential and learning acquired, learning and also the conditions that affect it,is an individualized process.
The evaluation used letters and their meaning for example:
L- logrado in english would be a letter A-Achieved
EP-en proceso in english wouldbe a letter IP-in process
I-Iniciado in english would be a letter I-initiated
NR-necesita refuerzo in englis would be a letter NR-need reinforcement.
In languague theassessment process would be:
                                               L            EP         I           NR
Recognizes three objects:   x            -             -           -
Used three-word phrases:   -             x            -           -
says his full name:               x            -             -           -
Distinguishes forward and
backward :                            x            -             -           -
Names four two five
colors:                                   -             x            -           -

Like this form each area is evaluated ,social ,groos motor skill, and fine motor skills ,to realize that we must improve or need to work more in each area.and at the end of the report ,is the observation part.

Early Language and Literacy

Learning to read and write doesn’t start in kindergarten or first grade. Developing language and literacy skills begins at birth through everyday loving interactions—sharing books, telling stories, singing songs, and talking to one another. In this section you will learn how adults—parents, grandparents and teachers—play a very important role in preparing young children for future school success and in becoming self-confident and motivated learners. www.zerotothree.

JUST TO KEEP IN MIND
All areas of development (social/emotional/intelectual/languague/motor)are linked. Each depends on,and influences, the others.
What children experience, including how their parents respond to them, shapes their development as they adapt to the world.

Consequences of stress on Children's Development

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

I want to share an experience I had with a frien that suffered domestic violence for her husband for many years and his 7 year old son was who suffered in their development.

Living in a home where mother abuse is ocurring, and for the children grow in an environment with violence and fear, has many implications for cognitive ,phychological, emotional, social  and behavioural development:
  • He had a delayed language development he need to have a language terapist to speak well.
  • In the school he has difficult to learn and concentrate,so he had a poor academic performance.
  • He has anxious, and fearful and he do poop in her pants.
  • He became to be angry with his dad, and his peers.
  • He had low self-esteem.
All of this factors affects the children, his view of the world and of themselves, their ideas about the life his expectations about his future and their moral development. So this children had to have a psychological therapy and know he is better ,but  they still being worked on this case with the help of his family and the psychologist ,because the damage in the emotinal part of this children was affected."Children whose earlier experiences were stressful and who lacked nurturing caregivers may have impairments of their limbic systems."(Berber,2009).

HUNGER IN AFRICA

More than 30 million children and adults across a swath of Africa face a devastating hunger crisis. Poor rainfall, crop failures and skyrocketing food prices and insecurity from Niger in the West to Kenya in the East have made it hard for parents to provide nutritious food for their children. Every day that young children go without eating the right nutritious foods puts them behind in their growth and development. What’s worse, it can weaken their immunity, making them vulnerable to killer diseases like diarrhea, malaria and pneumonia. We must stop hunger in Africa before it worsens, to help children survive and thrive.
In south Africa the undernutrition array of health problems in children, sometimes become chronic, extreme weight loss,weaken-ed resistence to infection, iron deficiency, vitamin A deficiency, zinc deficiency, and in the worts cases, early death.( the death rate from diseases such as lower respiratory infection, malaria, and measles.
Inadequate nutrition can also disrupt cognition, although in diferent ways.
Children with a history of malnutrition attained lower scores.
In Kenya and Malawi has found that some female-headed house holds with very low incomes have lower levels of preschool  malnutrition.

Child Development and Public Health

Malnutrition

I chose malnutrition, because I am just thinking that every night, almost one sixth of the world’s population goes to bed hungry .and every year, about 1 million children die from severe acute malnutrition.

Every year, 3.5 million children die due to malnutrition, while millions more suffer the devastating effects of hunger and poor nutrition. Poor nutrition, particularly during the 1,000 days between a woman’s pregnancy and her child’s second birthday can lead to lower IQ, lower educational performance, weakened immune systems, and can trap children and their families in a cycle of poverty. It is during this 1,000-day window that a child’s brain and body are most susceptible to the serious, often irreversible, damage caused by malnutrition.

Concern believes that the loss and suffering caused by hunger are utterly unacceptable in our time, especially because we know that solutions exist. Ensuring that adequate nutrition in the first years of life is essential to improving health and saving the lives of millions of children.

Malnutrition causes irreversible physical and mental stunting in one of every three children worldwide, one out of four children in developing countries is underweight.

Breastfeeding

  • Breastfeeding is important because protects babies (colustrum is a think yellow firts breast that is rich in nutrients and antibodies that protect the bay.
  • Mature milk has sugar, water, and protein to help your baby grow, breast milk is easier to digest for most babies.
  • The cells hormones and antibodies in breast milk protect babies from illness.
  • In breastfeeding "the physical contact" is so important to newborns ,it helps the babys feel more secure, warm, and comforted.
  • Breastfeeding lower risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, type 2 diabetes.

CHILD BIRTH IN YOUR LIFE AND AROUND THE WORLD

CHILDBIRTH

The birth of a child is a wonder. To keep those cheristed memories close to your heart.
My first experience being a mom was one of the best moments in my life ,I went to an hospital in South America Ecuador I was treated there for a cesarean birth because my baby was sitting, I was quiet, and deep breathing,I wanted everything to go well when I was taken to the operating room and my daughter was born,it was one of the greatest thrills to hear her crying and then he was calmed when the doctor put her on my chest,I have tears of emotion .
How important is at this time to be calm and quiet to convey that calm to the unborn child, as it is a crucial moment in their development.

I choose my country Ecuador the people that lives in the camp,(indigenas), they prefered to have their births are at home, this is normal in their culture and traditions, they think this type of birth ( acentral delibery) prevents maternal death and premature newborn, because they said the procedure is quick and less painful, midwife attends them.(Family member or a professional)
Here we coul see the significance of culture, and how the people learn the differents roles they need to perform throughout their lives and traditions.( Sandra Smidt,2006).
